I
am a makeup artist first. And I say that because I do everything
else as well. Hair, Styling, Garment Design, Photography, Retouching,
Graphic Design, Production Coordinating, anything! Just ask me,
and chances are I can handle it. But makeup is my focus and my
passion.
I
always kept an interest in fashion and beauty, despite growing
up the only girl in a household full of boys. My mother was a
seamstress and a beautician who often used her only daugther as
a guinea pig and little helper. My father, a music lover and hard
working jack of all trades, effectively influenced his little
girl as well.
I fled my hometown of Houston, TX immediately after high school
graduation in 1996 and moved to southern California, hoping to
pursue a career in fashion or entertainment. I acquired my degree
from FIDM and worked for a year as a design assistant in the heart
of L.A.'s fashion district, while making handbags and t-shirts
on the side. But easily distracted by my vast range of interests,
I took a break from the garment business in 2000 to venture into
video production and photography, taking on every imaginable type
of duty, all the while, still utilizing my design skills frequently
to style shoots, create costumes and promotional garb, etc...
Somewhere
late along that journey, I discovered my inner cosmetic junkie
and found myself back in the fashion and beauty world doing makeup
and loving it. I actually look forward to going to work now. I've
never met a makeup artist who doesn't just love his or her job.
I wish I had thought of it sooner. I've enjoyed making a living
as a freelance makeup artist in the Los Angeles area for the past
ten years and I can't wait to see what I end up doing next.
